Day 96

6th grade students are learning how to track their progress on two-step equations in math this unit.  Students watched videos made by 8th grade Harvest students and reflected on the problem based on the progress chart.  There were some specific and informative conversations within groups today.  Way to go 6th grade!

Day 95

Students in 7th grade science today used GLAD strategies to write a chant about cell organelles.  Harvest staff teach GLAD strategies to support all students with acquiring academic language skills.  These skills are important for writing and communicating well.

Day 94

Tutorial is a core practice in the AVID elective classes.  On Friday, AVID 8 students served as role models when they demonstrated a model AVID tutorial.  AVID 7 students watched as AVID 8 students presented their point of confusion, asked questions, and supported each other in solving the problem as well as understanding the process for problem solving.  #highschoolready #collegebound

Day 93

Harvest Middle School welcomed local farmers, NVUSD food services, and Dr. Patrick Sweeney in celebrating the local fruits and vegetables served in the cafeteria.  Students enjoyed brown rice, vegetables and teriyaki meatballs.

Day 92

Our 8th graders are ready to finish middle school strong.  Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Ready spoke to all 8th graders on Wednesday.  Each student received the 8th grade activities guidelines.  Mrs. Jones reviewed all the support for students academic success and emotional well-being.  Students were thanked for their efforts on creating a safe, respectful and responsible school community this year!

Day 91

Harvest Middle School is one of three schools that won Say Something Week!  The proven Say Something program teaches youth and adults the signs of at-risk behavior and how to properly intervene before someone hurts themselves or someone else. The call-to-action week invites schools and communities across the country to teach youth and teens how to be “upstanders” in their community instead of being bystanders. From October 24th through the 28th, SHP hosted its 2nd Annual Say Something Call-to-Action week. Hundreds of middle schools and high schools in 49 states participated in engaging weeklong activities. Harvest Middle School not only held events at their school, but also expanded its reach to the community by setting up a table at the school’s fall festival where parents and community leaders also learned about Say Something. Leading up to the festival, student leaders planned all of the events and created PowerPoints, videos, padlets and activities. Student leaders also created a photo booth for students, as well as took a photo with ¾ of the school in the shape a heart that was shared via social media. It was the first time the school had done anything like that.

Day 90

It's time to get the energy out and work together in PE.  Students played omnikin volleyball in PE today.  You could see students active, collaborating, and enjoying the game.  Harvest students are on the move!

Day 89

Animation students are designing their superhero, but these are not your everyday superheros!  Students are researching a social issue and designing a superhero who will battle that issue.

Day 88

Students in Visual Art selected a social issue to research as the basis for their art work.  It is amazing to hear the reasons why students chose their topic.  Students are showing they are caring and globally-minded. You can hear their passion for changing homelessness, poverty, prejudice, animal cruelty and much more!

Day 87

It's a new semester in design class.  Our latest designers are building structures inside a circle.  The challenge on Friday is to build a tower and knock it down so that the structure falls within the circle.  It is awesome watching students try a design, reflect and try again.  Can't wait for Friday to see who can meet the challenge!

Day 86

Our AVID 8th graders are getting high school and college ready together.  AVID students come to tutorial each week with a point of confusion from their core courses.  They work collaboratively asking questions and demonstrating their learning through the process.  Today, they made use of the library and worked together as an AVID Family.

Day 85

Literacy is highly valued at Harvest.  Language and Literature teachers joined together to plan our first Accelerated Reader Party for the year.  Students read or were read to by teachers and volunteers.  Our Million Word Readers were honored and prizes were raffled off.  Congrats to Kodie for winning a Kindle!  Keep reading Harvest Hawks!  #highschoolready #collegebound

Day 84

A small group of Harvest students shared their interests (needs, wants, concerns) about the bell schedule.  It is powerful practice to ask for student voice.  Today we heard a desire for support during the school day with academics and need for flexibility with time.  Way to go, #ibhawks!

Day 83

Our 6th graders are in "ship shape" as they entered class today and took their seats shaped in the form of a ship.  6th grades in Spanish are studying the Caribbean and Puerto Rico as well as the vocabulary for buildings, furniture, and activities you would do on vacation. Our land lubber, crew, able bodied sailors and captains are learning to work together as a team.  They are battling other classes utilizing the knowledge and skills learned during the unit.

Day 82

In partnership with Napa Valley Unified School District, Harvest Middle School 8th graders are learning health education this year through physical education classes.  This month our 8th graders are learning about health and sex education.  Thank you to Kim Whipple, NVUSD Health Educator, for supporting student learning at Harvest.

Day 81

6th grade students in Individuals and Societies reviewed their progress on their civilization projects.  Students reflected on their progress with the learning log and worked toward their goal.  Harvesting a growth mindset today!
